Promoting better health practices especially in the prevention of HIV and TB

  • Has worked in 4 districts of Kabale, Rubanda, Rukiga and Ntungamo to promote demand, access and utilization of health services and enabling people who do not know their HIV status to access services
  • Used the approach of using community volunteers including those infected with HIV and village health teams (VHTs) to reach out to mobilize community members to access and utilize health services.
  • Worked with 52 VHTs in mobilizing, sensitization  and referral of clients such as  pregnant mothers and others with different ailments like malaria, those seeking family planning services etc
  • A total of 3071 clients (2404 F, 667M)  were referred and reached health facilities  during the period 2016-2020. Most of these (124)were mothers for ANC while 114 were for HIV testing and counselling.
  • From 2018-2020, supported testing of 4010 people (1930 females and 2080 males)  where 274 were tested HIV positive (124F, 150M) in 4 high population health facilities of Bukinda, Mparo, Hamurwa  and  Bubare. The focus was on index clients who are newly infected  and assisted partner notification (APN)
  • Distributed 288,283 condoms in 3 communities using volunteers and using condom dispensers in trading centers and towns over a period of 4 years mainly targeting most at-risk populations mainly sex workers, their partners as well as couples.
  • Worked with 8 groups of people living with HIV (PLHIVs) totaling 459 people (131M, 328F in 4 sub-counties of Bukinda in Rukiga district, Kaharo sub-county in Kabale district, and Rwamucucu sub-county around high population health facilities of Bukinda, Mparo, Hamurwa and Bubare.
  • Worked with 146 members from discordant relationships where 39 couples attended together as partners. This was in 3 high volume sites of Bukinda, Mparo and Hamurwa health facilities
  • Supported 162 children living with HIV in Ariel clubs in 3 high-volume health facilities of Bukinda, Mparo, and Hamurwa who were provided with health education, psychosocial support, and reproductive health for adolescents.
  • Supported introduction of GBV in health facilities as part of advocacy for victims of GBV to enhance health services including HIV counseling and testing as well as psychosocial support.
  • For 2017-18, a total of 945 cases of GBV were met (618F, 227M) where the majority were physical (421 cases); psycho-social (349 cases), and sexual 154 cases)
